Tungnath - Chopta Chandrashila Trek

Chandrashila means Moonrock. Chandrashila trek is a journey to the height of about 4000 meters above sea level. Changrashila is with a spectacular view of the Himalayas, especially Nandadevi, Trishul, Kedar Peak, Bandarpunch, and Chaukhamba peaks. There are many legends about the place. One such is that Lord Rama meditated here after defeating the Demon King Ravana. Another one of such legend stories is that the moon god Chandra spent time here in penance. The beauty of this trekking location is incredible with its impressive vantage point offering a 360-degree panoramic view of the mighty Himalayas.

How to Reach Chandrashila Trek from Rishikesh

By Bus:

From Delhi, a regular bus service operates to Rishikesh. The main bus station in Delhi is ISBT Kashmere Gate, offering both AC and non-AC buses for the journey to Rishikesh.

By Train:

To reach Rishikesh from Delhi by train, you’ll first need to travel to Haridwar. From there, you can take a bus to Rishikesh, which is 35 km away. Haridwar serves as a major railway junction connecting Delhi to Rishikesh.

By Air:

The closest airport to reach Rishikesh by flight is Jolly Grant Airport, located approximately 25 km from the city. Regular flights from Delhi to Rishikesh are available. If you plan to arrive by flight, it’s advisable to schedule your arrival one day in advance.

Chopta Chandrashila Trek Itinerary:

Day 01: Delhi/Rishikesh to Chopta

  • Stay: Overnight stay at Swiss Camps in Chopta
  • Meal: Dinner
  • Altitude: Chopta (8888 ft).
  • Distance: By Road 250 km
  • Time Taken: By Road 7-8 hr Pickup from Delhi will be late night and Drive to Rishikesh.

Early Morning we reached Rishikesh and stopped for a while and then we left for Chopta. Experience the tranquil allure of the mountains as you journey towards Chopta. While the Himalayan drive may be a tad exhausting, the mesmerizing vistas will continuously rejuvenate your spirit. Upon arrival, settle into your cozy camps, and enjoy a leisurely evening surrounded by the majestic Himalayan scenery. Note: Pickup from Delhi will be one night before.

 

Day 2: Hiking from Chopta base to Tungnath and Chandrashila Summit

  • Stay: Overnight stay at Swiss Camp in Chopta
  • Meal: breakfast and dinner.
  • Altitude: Tungnath Temple (12106 ft), Chandrashila summit (12,110 ft)
  • Distance: 8 kms ( both sides).
  • Time Taken: 4 – 5 hrs approx.
  • Trek Grade: Easy

On the second day of your exhilarating trek, we embark on the journey towards Tungnath and Chandrashila, starting from either Chopta base. This leg of the trek offers a perfect blend of ascent and descent, with a well-defined rocky trail that unveils the majestic Chandrashila summit and the vibrant hues of Tungnath temple. As we progress further, you’ll encounter the first challenge: navigating a steep uphill bend along the mountain’s ridgeback. Throughout the trek, you’ll be surrounded by the vibrant blossoms of Rhododendron, adding a splash of color to your adventure. Upon reaching the revered Tungnath temple, take a moment to pay homage to Lord Shiva, as Tungnath stands as one of the highest Shiva temples globally. After visiting the temple, we trek towards Chandrashila Summit, another captivating highlight of our journey. Finally, we’ll trek back to Chopta, concluding a day filled with awe-inspiring vistas and memorable experiences.

Note:Tungnath temple opens only in summer and closes by Diwali.

 

Day 3: Drive from Chopta to Sari village and Departure

  • Meal: Breakfast
  • Altitude: Sari Village (6601 ft)
  • Distance: 250 km
  • Time Taken: 7–8 hrs approx.
  • Trek Grade: By Road

On the third day after breakfast, we will proceed on our trek to Deoria Tal lake. It is a 2.5 km long trek. After a very short downhill trek, your surroundings open up to a grand view of Deoriatal, with Mt. Chaukhambha massif looming in the background. After exploration, we will trek back to Sari Village. After resting for a while and taking in the final moments on the mountain, we will start our journey towards Delhi where we will reach on next day’s early morning around 3 to 4 AM. Drop off in Delhi.

What is included in the tour

  • Accommodation will be at Swiss Camps on Triple/Quad Sharing basis as per the itinerary.
  • Meals served will be pure vegetarian Breakfast and Dinner at all booked Places (Starting with Dinner on day 01 and ending with Breakfast on Day 03) all meals will be on a fixed menu basis (MAPI Basis)
  • Transportation: Using Tempo Traveller or any other vehicle, depending on the group size.

Cancellation Policy

To ensure a seamless experience, we recommend booking your adventure at least two months in advance. Should the need arise to cancel your trek or adventure activity, we kindly request written notification. Cancellation charges will apply from the date we receive your written advice.

We understand the frustration of cancellations, but rest assured, we are committed to facilitating your next adventure with us.

We offer a cancellation policy that is fair, practical, and convenient for our customers.

Cancellation by Participant: If a participant wishes to cancel their booking for any reason, they must notify [Treks and Trails] in writing/email as soon as possible. The following cancellation charges will apply:

  • Cancellation between 15-29 days prior to the trek departure date: 75% of the total trek cost will be charged as cancellation fees.
  • Cancellation between 7-14 days of the trek departure date: 50% of the total trek cost will be charged as cancellation fees.
  • Cancellation between 1-6 days of the trek departure date: 100% of the total trek cost will be charged as cancellation fees.
  • No Show: Participants who do not show up for the trek without prior intimation will be considered as a ‘No Show’. In such cases, 100% of the total trek cost will be charged as cancellation fees.

Chandrashila Trek in comparison is easy to moderate difficulty with another high altitude trek.

3.    How much distance do we have to trek each day?

On an average, we cover roughly 6-7kms between our camping stations.

4.    What will happen if a trek is extended?

Beyond our controllable reasons when the trek is extended, then additional charges tend to be applied.

5.    Who will be our lead guide person?

Lead guide person is certified & experienced personnel. These guides are locally sourced and have other team members including local guides, cook, helpers and porters.

6.    Is this trek safe for girls?

Our treks are planned with a male: female ratio. As an organizer, we make sure that their tents are shared only with other female trekkers.

7.    Many people in a tent?

Our tents are all three person tents.

8.    What is the level of fitness expected from the trekkers?

Good physical and mental fitness is expected to complete the Trek. Chandrashila Trek is ideal for beginners to familiarize themselves with similar high altitude treks.

9. Typical Food menu during a trek?

We make sure that wholesome and nutritious breakfast, lunch and evening snacks are served. We believe and serve only vegetarian food as it is easy to digest and preferable in high altitudes.

10.    What if we encounter a medical emergency?

We are trained to manage emergencies in high altitudes. Our lead guide is professional and experienced. Our team do carry emergency first aid kits and oxygen cylinder.
